Introducing Our New Instructor Community

Last year I was approached by an Instructor who suggested that he, his colleagues and American Heart Association might benefit from a social sharing and networking site (he called it a mash-up of LinkedIn and Facebook). Instructors are the public face of the AHA, and together we should be able to share our stories and have meaningful conversation. A social site seemed like a natural next step in the process.

Today I am proud to announce the launch of that site — our Instructor Community — created exclusively for the AHA Training Network. We have been piloting it for several months now with about 150 instructors, and we are thrilled to invite all of our AHA Instructors and Training Center Coordinators to join.

Features of the Instructor Community include:

  • Online discussion forums to share ideas, discuss training courses, ask questions about the updated guidelines and more
  • The Instructor Community blog where you can share your experience and read those of others
  • The opportunity to connect with other Instructors in your area and around the country
  • Downloadable resources to help you as an Instructor
  • Provide feedback, suggestions, etc. to AHA CPR & ECC

Starting today, when you log in to the Instructor Network, you will see this widget (below) on your Dashboard. It will lead you directly into the Community. With our integrated “single sign-on” feature, you will not be required to create a new user account / password in the Community. We want to make it as seamless as possible to toggle back and forth between the Network and Community, and we hope this function makes it easier for you to come and go to the Community as you please.

Finally, I want to reiterate that this Community was built exclusively for you, our passionate and dedicated Instructors. This forum is only as good as the engaging, timely, and ongoing discussion that continues to take place. Please let us know how we can better serve you with your ideas to keep the site fresh and useful by reaching out to us at [email protected]. I personally thank you for your participation and for helping our Instructor Community to grow and thrive!

    • Hi Michelle! AHA Instructors access the 2015 AHA Guidelines Instructor Update Courses through the AHA
Instructor Network. Below are access instructions:
      1. Go to the AHA Instructor Network.
      2. Click the “Go to Instructor Updates” button in the Guidelines Instructor Update box on the
right side of the page. You will be directed to the Guidelines Instructor Update Courses
      landing page.
      3. Click the “Online Instructor Updates” button.
      4. Login using your AHA Instructor Network username and password. Once Instructor
credentials are verified, you will be directed to the courses.

NOTE: Since the courses are hosted on a new platform, eLearning.Heart.org, the first time
you visit, you will be asked to accept the terms and conditions.
Instructors can also access the courses through their Instructor Network Dashboard.

      • Hi Brad,

        Hi Guys,

Iv been teaching CPR First Aid VIA American Red Cross and also with the Heart Association of Chicago for years now .

I’ve moved now to the Arizona and am very interested in becoming my own Training Center- I have access to a location and have 20 Manikins and 1st Aid supplies. I have inroads into the local small business here to market to. Can anyone tell me if this process to become a training center is complicated? any advice? I’d imagine the card are purchased in large bundles?

  1. Must you be an instructor? We are restarting our first aid/cpr team after losing our team lead at work and car information should be helpful for those wanting to learn as well, right?

  2. Hi all. So I am having a heck of a time getting cards from my TC. I have students who have been waiting almost a month for cards and some of them need them for a job. I’ve tried multiple times to reach out to the training center and the coordinator via phone email and text and have gotten no answers. The voice mailbox is now full and they are not responding back. What would you do?

    • Hello Adriana. We’re so sorry you’re having trouble reaching your TC. We’ll send you an email shortly to help resolve the situation.

  3. should a health care provider take the bls course or the heart code bls course? Everything I’m reading is leading me to bls course

    THanks!

    • Hi Cindy, they are actually the same course, just different learning styles. But the BLS Instructor-led Training Course is updated, while HeartCode BLS has yet to launch. I’d suggest searching for a Training Center near you that offers the BLS Provider Course. You can find this using our “Find a Course” tool at http://www.heart.org/findacourse.

    • Hi Anne. Have you posed this question w/in the Instructor Community? There’s been lots of discussion around the BLS DVD there.

  4. I’d like to hear from other instructors on how they are getting through the new BLS DVD?

    • Hello Maureen, I suggest you ask this question within the Instructor Community itself for guidance. You can access the Community through the Instructor Network. Look for the big red button on the right side of the Instructor Network homepage.

  5. Hi Brad, yes, I initially thought that this was the Instructor Community. Thanks for your response, Anne

  6. Also, as far as I can see, there is no BLS “Renewal” option on the new DVD, is that correct? Thank you, Anne

  7. Greetings Friends! I just started my own CPR and First Aid training Business. I have been shopping around for weeks. I want to make sure I get the best supplies at the best deals. After weeks of searching and comparing prices I stumbled upon a review on Pintrest for MCR Medical Supply. I contacted them am was really excited about how knowledgeable they were on products. I was able to get my manikins from them along with a lot of other training supplies. http://www.mcrmedical.com/category/Prestan-CPR-Manikins.html
Now I’m looking for DVD’s, books, and cards. Any suggestions on where I can purchase these materials?

    • Hi Cindy! Our Instructor Community would be a great resource for your question re: the purchase of these materials. You can access the Community through the Instructor Network. Look for the big red button on the right side of the Instructor Network homepage. Thanks for reaching out!

  9. Hey guys I am a instructor at the Red Cross. I’m required to pay the Red Cross $28 for every student that I teach. My wife is a nurse and wants to start teaching with me. I am curious to find out if it’s better to teach for the Red Cross or to teach for aha. How much does aha require you to pay them per student. This information will help me decide whether or not to continue with red cross or move over to Aha and teach with my wife.
